It’s to show character growth of the main characters in terms of strategy and boldness, and to introduce these new “Seniors” all at once by showing some of the sharp edges of their personality, while entertaining you with the MC ragebaiting everyone.
It’s sorta subtle worldbuilding, rather than direct plot movement.
If you think that then you should only read things or watch anime with only fights and nothing said cause apparently you don’t like world building nor explanations of power systems. If nobody talked then people would be upset about things suddenly happening out of nowhere with no explanation.
