Log In to Commenthum, the "gods", aren't they just "ancien humans" ? It sounds like the story take place in the future, where technology and science are inexistant or very limited because magic became a thing. When the arabion girl was talking about static electricity like it was a secret for example.
So with science knowledges you can create/use far more advanced magic ? If you understand how to make fire you can cast a flame comparable to a lighter, but if you understand the principles of it (oxygen, gaz, combustion, ...) you can cast very high temperature flames like a blowtorch maybe.
And so, theses "gods" erased science knowledges and pushed for low intelligence peoples so they can't threaten them/their descendants.
Last hypothesis : theses "gods" are otherworld peoples, this explain the interrogation and surprise on the lack of intelligence and creativity of the natives. Then they learned advanced magic backed with science knowledge and manipulated this world for their safety (or ruling over)
Then the MC's mother may be a descendant of theses gods (her curiosity of everything, like "strange clothes" and all) or a "god" herself.
