He had to make his opponent unsure about his shield so they wouldn’t use, then make them panic by obscuring their sight so he could slam them with surprise attacks, and all to push them right to the edge of using their last resort, which is when the MC pulled out his trump card of nullifying the hastily-cast 3rd circle protection spell and smacking him in return.
