fingers crossed its a lost in translation type thing. a concept we dont have in english so it gets translated to the next best thing.
Considering that mc didn't mention anything about leaving his parents, I'm guessing it's not the type of adoption we're used to. Maybe it's one of those god parent kind of thing. There's this regression medical manhwa with similar schtick, mc saved grandma, grandma adopted him and his mom, but no papers were involved, just her calling them her kid and grandkid, paving the way for him when he needs it.
I bet it's a type of adoption into a powerful commercial group, so he only takes the Group Name, and he can potentially be the leader of the group in the future, but still be his birth parents child, basically 2 parents, an investor type of parent, and the home parents. (It must be a local thing for them)
It's not that type of adoption. I think the translation is wrong. It's a sponsorship, his parents are still alive and well, however the grandpa will sponsor his schooling and his education, he'll also be able to meet grandpa's family members, could also do events with the family. But he's not changing his surname
