If it has a school/academy, it has a bullying arc, there is no way around it. Good luck finding a school fiction… or even non academically focused fiction, especially an Asian one, without at LEAST 30% of the story wasted on some various type of bullying and/or harassment filler in the plot.
You said it. School arc == bullying arc in every form of fiction, I swear.
Which, okay, sure, is somewhat realistic, relatable, and an easy way to cause drama for plot. But there are so many other ways of making a school arc interesting, I wish they didn’t all fall on the same tropes.
Also, I only ever had like a couple of small incidents of bullying throughout all 15 years of my education in primary, intermediate, secondary, and tertiary. And one of those was from a teacher who ended up fired and banned from teaching for bullying me 😅
