      It's pretty hard to shake that emotional connection with family.
      He had pride in being called a genius and being respected by his father, a powerful and respected member of society.
      When he lost that respect, it felt to him as if he had lost everything he once held dear.
      Thus, his goal became to regain the approval he had lost, only to find that it wasn't a true goal once he had gained the means to achieve it, and now he seeks to go further.

      He's not just trying to get the approval of his dad but his entire family to be the proper head of the family. If you aren't a respected leader then you'll eventually be betrayed

      I understand your frustration but consider that MC

      1. still need protection
      2. need resources to grow
      3. it was only a year of neglect
      4. father didnt really disown and cut off (father still accept that he is his son, willing to take a 'magic theory' son, but his method is harsh -cut off his hope to be a mage, because to his knowledge, not having a chip is too big a disadvantages, who knows maybe it's deadly? if there is war or conflict. so in a way, for MC's good.
      5. and it was MC that ran away to dorm, when MC refuses his father's secondary path

      at least the father didnt throw him out, cut off money, cut off ties, refuse to listen anymore, abuse (verbal or mental).
