It’s pretty hard to shake that emotional connection with family.
He had pride in being called a genius and being respected by his father, a powerful and respected member of society.
When he lost that respect, it felt to him as if he had lost everything he once held dear.
Thus, his goal became to regain the approval he had lost, only to find that it wasn’t a true goal once he had gained the means to achieve it, and now he seeks to go further.
