Where has he been naive? If anything, he’s realistic for his field’s reputation.
His only “dumbness” is trying to take it all on himself, rather than relying on his connections to help fight the obvious corruption.
But that in itself proves his character to everyone else who’s watching this unfold, so it’s not entirely a bad mindset.
