Why do returnee authors always make the MC poor and brainless? It makes zero sense! 🙄
From a pure common-sense perspective, if you are an all-powerful emperor returning to a world where S-Rank hunters are treated like global billionaires, the very first thing you should do is get rich. You don’t even have to reveal your identity—you could easily use a proxy hunter to sell high-tier boss drops, liquidate otherworldly resources, or covertly clear gates for massive black-market payouts. Staying broke and hiding in a tiny apartment actually invites more chaos (thugs, debt, low-tier hunters looking down on you) than it prevents.
Instead, the author strips the MC of basic common sense and keeps the sister completely blind for two cheap reasons:
• The "Juxtaposition" Gag: The author thinks it is peak comedy to contrast a literal god-level warrior with the mundane struggles of buying expensive baby formula or getting smacked by his older sister for wasting electricity.
• The Progression Illusion: Webnovel authors are terrified of "power-scaling inflation." If the MC gets rich and famous in Chapter 1, the standard "zero-to-hero" progression format breaks. They artificially freeze his wealth to stretch out the story.
By Chapter 16, it just feels like lazy writing. The author is completely sacrificing logical world-building and a smart protagonist just to force wholesome, repetitive slice-of-life comedy gags.
It's October 1st at my place
