It is extremely unsatisfying when characters don't earn any of the things or success they have.
There's nothing more boring about a story than knowing nothing the characters do matters because "something" will just happen to resolve the situation anyway.
The character does not behave in a way that allows the reader to believe he's capable of the things the story attributes to him. It creates a sense of disconnect between what we see and what we're told.
What we see is him being a loser, and stupidly incompetent, and failing over and over. Yet the story insists he's the most capable person in the world and a hero that can overcome anything.
It just doesn't line up. Even the boss that one shot him with barely a fraction of its power assumes he'll regenerate and be unharmed. There's such a massive difference in ability that the way they're behaving and reacting doesn't make any sense.
