[Chapter 149] Urgent Dispatch
Flap, flap.
Late at night, while a massive battle was raging within the Heretic Alliance.
Not far from there, a bird landed on the second floor of a shabby inn with a crooked sign reading ‘Myriad Beasts Inn’.
“…Hmm? At this hour?”
A middle-aged woman tilted her head in confusion and approached the bird.
The moment she discovered something attached to it, her eyes widened in utter disbelief.
She hurriedly ran to a room at the very back of the inn.
Inside, a man was snoring loudly as he slept.
“Ugh, the smell of alcohol. Has this man already passed out drunk? Honestly, I should just report him to our superiors for neglecting his duties.”
But now was not the time for that.
“Wake up! Hurry!”
“Mmmm.”
She shook the man to wake him.
However, no matter how much she shook him, he showed no signs of waking up. Taking a deep breath, she yelled right into his ear.
“I. SAID. WAKE. UP! YOU. DAMN. FOOL!”
“Uwaaaaaaagh!”
The man jolted awake in shock, springing up from his bed.
“Wh-what! What is it! What!”
Looking down at him with crossed arms, the woman glared at him, causing his face to contort in annoyance.
“What do you think you’re doing right now! I almost went deaf!”
“A carrier pigeon arrived! A carrier pigeon!”
“Wait… what time is it? If it’s not urgent, you could just handle it tomorrow. Haven’t you been doing this job for a day or two? Oh, man! Seriously! I was having such a good dream!”
Looking utterly annoyed, the man flopped right back down.
At that, the woman let out a deep sigh before speaking again.
“It’s red.”
Hearing that, the man sprang back to what passed for life.
“What? What color?”
“Red.”
“Hand it over!”
The man stretched out his hand, his eyes wide open.
The message the woman handed him was indeed red.
That meant it was an urgent report.
Soon, the man’s face shifted continuously as he hurriedly checked the contents of the message.
“D-damn it!”
He hurriedly prepared to leave.
Seeing this, the woman asked with a puzzled expression.
“Where are you going?”
“The Heretic Alliance! I have to go to the Heretic Alliance!”
“What? At this hour?”
The woman asked back, but the man set off immediately without a word of reply, acting as if he didn’t have the time.
Rushing out frantically, all traces of drunkenness completely gone from his face.
Just what on earth was in the message.
As the second-in-command to the man, the woman belatedly checked the contents of the carrier pigeon’s message.
And her eyes widened in utter disbelief.
“My god… Is this true?”
Looking at the fallen Sama Ryang, Yeo Woonhwi sank into thought for a moment.
Was it ambition that Sama Ryang displayed at the very end? Or was it faith?
That was not something he could know for sure.
The only certain thing was that the moment Sama Riang chose to cause the deaths of countless innocent people, his verdict had already been sealed.
Whether they had some underlying reason or not, it didn’t matter.
That was ‘evil’, pure and simple. Not a shred of sympathy stirred within him.
‘Besides that,’
Sama Ryang was the Chief Tactician of the Heretic Alliance.
It made Yeo Woonhwi wonder if the Dark Calamity had taken root far deeper in various places than he had thought.
It was almost certainly not just the Heretic Alliance, but perhaps the Murim Alliance and the Demonic Cult as well. No, it was practically a given.
He pondered how he should face the Dark Calamity moving forward.
It was something he couldn’t just ignore from the start.
They were the ones standing opposite the Martial God.
Now that he had inherited everything from the Martial God and gained the power to protect his family, it was a debt he inevitably had to pay.
And aside from that, their goal seemed to be destroying the current Murim and creating a new world of their own.
He didn’t know their exact methods, but they were people who didn’t care in the slightest about turning ordinary humans into Demonic Humans, sacrificing countless innocent lives in the process.
If he didn’t stop them, it was obvious that their blade would eventually be aimed at the Hebei Peng Clan and his family.
Therefore, regardless of anything else, it was Yeo Woonhwi’s destiny to fight against them.
They were enemies he could not, and should not, avoid.
So, Yeo Woonhwi was more than willing to confront them with all his might.
He was just contemplating the most surefire way to minimize the damage.
“H-heavens…”
“What did I just witness?”
Meanwhile, the inside of the Heretic Alliance’s banquet hall had been in a state of continuous shock.
It was to be expected, given the succession of utterly mind-blowing events that had occurred.
That applied to everyone, including the Soul Annihilation Troop, Soul-Chasing Twin Swords, the Ghost-Eyed Demon Lord Ma Seak, and all the others.
The final banquet held on the White Wolf Troop’s last night at the Heretic Alliance, and the chaos caused by the Demonic Human who crashed it.
And the shocking revelation of Chief Tactician Sama Ryang’s true identity.
Furthermore, the Heretic Alliance had been thrown into a desperate crisis by the immense power and schemes he had kept hidden until now.
It seemed as though there was absolutely no way to deal with him.
Yet, in that hopeless situation, Yeo Woonhwi had stepped forward.
And he had ultimately struck down Sama Ryang.
With overwhelming power, at that.
‘Is that even a category of martial art a human being can wield?’
The people present were all masters who had made names for themselves in the Murim as members of the Unorthodox faction.
Because of this, they knew better than anyone.
Just how incredible the power that man named Yeo Woonhwi possessed was.
Everyone was astonished by Yeo Woonhwi’s martial arts.
Even,
‘Is such a thing even possible?’
The Black Martial Emperor, Dokgo Yeong, felt the same.
Having regained the ability to use his Internal Energy after roughly fifteen minutes had passed, Dokgo Yeong couldn’t fathom the limits of Yeo Woonhwi’s power, no matter how much he observed it.
Even with the depth of power he possessed as one of the Twelve Venerables of the World.
How could something like this be?
And he realized something.
‘Ah. So it was him. This young friend was the one who severed the head of the Extreme Evil Lesser Demon.’
The question of how a mere martial troop of an Orthodox clan could take on one of the absolute supreme evils, no matter how injured the demon might have been, was resolved right then and there.
He found it truly remarkable.
It was simply astounding that he possessed such immense martial arts at such a young age.
And how such a master had kept his name hidden until now.
‘Indeed. Has a new sun risen upon the orthodox Murim?’
Dokgo Yeong looked at Yeo Woonhwi with such admiration.
“Ha, haha… Just what on earth is our Captain.”
“You can say that again.”
Feeling the buzzing atmosphere around them, the members of the White Wolf Troop unconsciously puffed out their chests with pride.
However, they were just as surprised as everyone else.
They already knew Yeo Woonhwi was strong, but for some reason, the more they saw it, the less they could get used to it.
In truth, who could possibly get used to seeing something like that?
They could only let out hollow laughs.
Still, it was true that they felt proud and fulfilled that such a man was their Captain.
Along with that, the White Wolf Troop burned with motivation to endure and overcome whatever grueling training Yeo Woonhwi had in store for them in the future.
“What are you doing! Everyone, hurry up and recover the bodies!”
As soon as Dokgo Yeong spoke, Soul-Chasing Twin Swords Jo Ilha and Ghost-Eyed Demon Lord Ma Seak stepped forward to take control of the situation.
As expected of the Black Martial Emperor.
Even though his mind must have been in turmoil from everything that had happened, he calmly cooled his head and issued orders.
“I truly have no face to show you after inviting you as guests.”
Before Yeo Woonhwi knew it, Dokgo Yeong had approached and spoken to him.
He still looked somewhat exhausted.
It was natural. How could he recover so quickly from the betrayal of someone he trusted?
This was why the demons of the heart were so terrifying.
However, he would overcome this incident well, too.
Because the Black Martial Emperor he had seen so far was that kind of person.
“It seems I have more and more reasons to say this to you.”
For a moment, Dokgo Yeong stared intently at Yeo Woonhwi.
He had more than one or two questions.
But above all, he knew what he had to say.
“I, and our Heretic Alliance, owe you a great debt. I sincerely thank you.”
Slowly, Dokgo Yeong bowed his head.
And he spoke to Yeo Woonhwi with genuine sincerity.
Everyone wore shocked expressions.
To think the Black Martial Emperor would bow his head to another.
Even though they had watched the situation unfold from the sidelines, it was undeniably an astonishing sight.
The martial artists of the Heretic Alliance who were handling the aftermath also wore surprised faces.
“Please don’t do this. Everyone is watching.”
Yeo Woonhwi, looking troubled, tried to stop him.
But Dokgo Yeong paid it no mind whatsoever.
“No, this is my sincerity, not just as a single person, but as the Alliance Leader of the Heretic Alliance. You saved our Heretic Alliance. Thank you truly.”
Dokgo Yeong’s words were not an exaggeration.
If the key figures of the Heretic Alliance present today, including Dokgo Yeong, had all fallen to Sama Ryang, the Heretic Alliance would have been unable to recover. No, they would have stood at the crossroads of complete collapse.
Even if that hadn’t happened and Sama Ryang’s identity had been revealed later, it was clear that they would have suffered even greater damage then.
Sure enough, the damage caused by the Demonic Humans Sama Ryang had continuously created from behind the scenes was already immense.
So, since Yeo Woonhwi stepped up, revealed Sama Ryang’s identity, and struck him down, how could it be said that he hadn’t saved the Heretic Alliance?
Dokgo Yeong’s words were certainly not an overstatement.
Following Dokgo Yeong, even the martial artists of the Heretic Alliance present bowed their heads to Yeo Woonhwi, expressing their gratitude.
It was an unbelievable sight.
The entire Heretic Alliance bowing their heads to a single martial artist from the Orthodox faction.
‘Haha. This is…’
Yeo Woonhwi scratched his head as he looked at Dokgo Yeong.
Dokgo Yeong wore an incredibly resolute expression.
It seemed he wouldn’t easily back down if Yeo Woonhwi didn’t accept his gratitude and sincerity.
He was a truly fascinating man.
While some people naturally failed to uphold what they should, Dokgo Yeong was someone who protected what needed to be protected and knew how to honestly express what his heart felt.
It made Yeo Woonhwi think that perhaps the position of Murim Alliance Leader would suit him better than Heretic Alliance Leader.
“Understood. I have received your sincerity well.”
Only at Yeo Woonhwi’s words did Dokgo Yeong finally raise his head.
For a moment, the two exchanged glances.
It was truly an unusually intertwined relationship between the two.
Anyway, the banquet ended here.
With so many casualties, it was impossible to continue the banquet any longer.
They would take the rest of their conversation inside…
It was then.
A martial artist of the Heretic Alliance hurriedly entered the banquet hall and reported something to Soul-Chasing Twin Swords.
That information was quickly relayed to Dokgo Yeong.
Wearing a puzzled expression, he then asked Yeo Woonhwi.
“Do you happen to have a connection with the Hao Clan?”
“Pardon? Ah. Yes. I do, but…”
“You are a truly unpredictable friend.”
Looking at Soul-Chasing Twin Swords, Dokgo Yeong ordered, “Let him in.”
Then, his gaze turned back to Yeo Woonhwi.
“A man belonging to the Hao Clan said he urgently needs to find you. He claims to know you.”
Yeo Woonhwi wore a bewildered expression.
They were looking for him at this late hour?
And they forced their way into the Heretic Alliance, even going as far as to reveal his identity?
What on earth could be the matter?
Yeo Woonhwi felt a sense of foreboding.
Soon, a familiar face entered the Heretic Alliance.
“I-I greet the Black Martial Emperor!”
The man with a round, amiable face greeted Dokgo Yeong with a highly tense expression.
“Is this the Hao Clan member you know?”
“Yes. That’s correct.”
Yeo Woonhwi nodded.
For some reason, the man known as the Branch Leader seemed extremely urgent.
“What is the matter?”
“T-there! A-a huge incident has occurred!”
“What do you mean, a huge incident?”
The man shouted with a trembling voice.
“The Hebei Peng Clan is in danger! Th-the Demonic Cult has marched toward Hebei!”
At his words, Yeo Woonhwi’s face froze.
