Plot Device Armor activate!
While true, and an immense amount of Plot Contrivance, it’s done so interestingly and is so detailed that I don’t mind one bit ๐

Those who are under the 4th circle and able to use the potion to channel such an enormous amount of mana.
The Shadows are all high-circle magicians and can’t use the potion. While their ability to channel mana is indeed greater than 3rd and 4th circle magicians naturally, it seems the potion temporarily increases their ability to channel that mana far higher than the Shadows can.
