Because if he accepted the deal to get the cube without fighting, he’d effectively be agreeing to be his pawn, rather than earning it fair and square.

but he is also being a dick about it, a prophetic vision shouldn’t be a far fetched thing for him to believe given how he got his powers. Turning them down is all well and good and probably the best option for him but there is also no reason to be a dick about it, he is coming off as an ill-mannered brat. His future self told him to save the world and this guy confirmed to him the world is nearing annihilation soon, if anything he should be interested in maintaining friendly relations with at least the chairman. Then and again, he is a teenager so this behavior actually makes sense i suppose
