I have to chime in.
Out of all the trashy ridiculousness that has been shown in this manhwa, the Soldier being surprised by MC laughing, and NOT wanting to be conscripted, makes 200% total sense.
During the 900-1700 medieval times, being a Soldier, instead of a Peasant, is essencially the equivalent of getting a 400k salary, after only having the choice to work for free-labour your entire life.
All peasants are farmers by rule, very few have side-jobs or spare time; Soldiers in comparison are nearly Nobles, do well enough in War, and you actually become a Noble for ~4 generations.
