so why he wants to become Mortal again?
Because apparently the whole cause of this to the island is the voilent spiritual energy that is outside the barrier. If he , as an immortal, leaves the island , it will be instant death. Since he figured out that it doesnt target mortals, he can just temporary make himself one again and just get on his little Taihan boat to reach the nearest safest island (which here he says it will be the wanxian island) and turn himself back into an immortal to escape that current death trap of an island that he is on.
