For clarification, if in a dungeon you have five lives, and once those lives are exhausted, you ressurect outside of the dungeon, the hellfire prison would simply take away all of your lives and send you outside the dungeon.
On the other hand, the sword is similar to a 'delete account' button

I don't think that's the case because he used the hellfire prison to completely eradicate the necromancer and he never respawned. I think its the same kind of thing where the soul is erased but I don't believe he ever got the ability and he's also never commanded his dragon to use it so either the author forgot or he no longer has access to the ability.
So let me get this straight. While controlling the dragon, after getting the dragon heart, he unlocked hellfire prison, which completely eradicates the soul and Perma kills them. HE recently got this sword that is powered by blood crystals and also perma destroys their soul. However, he no longer inhabits the dragons body, and the dragon lost memories after dying, so the dragon can't use the hellfire prison.
