Hmmm this character might have autism. So innocent.
-1. Naivety and a low social and emotional intelligence don't mean autism. At all. He's been coddled and sheltered to the extreme, developed a coping mechanism of unreasonable optimism, and doesn't learn by context; that's all.
If this was intentionally written as an "autistically-coded" character, it was by someone who doesn't understand the autistic spectrum one bit.
Sincerely, someone on the spectrum, whose wife, entire immediate biological family, and every past best friend over 32 years have also been on the spectrum.
