[Chapter 150] The Demonic Cult Moves
“The Demonic Cult…”
At the unexpected news, the gathering erupted into a murmur.
Hearing the entire account, Yeo Woonhwi also felt his heart hammering like crazy.
The Demonic Cult was heading toward the Hebei Peng family. That Demonic Cult.
However, Yeo Woonhwi soon took a deep breath and calmed his mind.
Panicking right now would be of no help.
The greater the crisis, the calmer and more rational he had to be.
This was not the time to let his emotions explode.
“The estimated time of arrival for the Demonic Cult at the Hebei Peng family is tomorrow. But it could be even sooner.”
“Understood. Thank you for running all this way to deliver the message.”
“Grand Commander!”
Hearing the news, the members of the White Wolf Troop wore expressions of utter distress.
“Calm down, everyone.”
At Yeo Woonhwi’s words, they forced themselves to nod, but staying calm was easier said than done.
“Our first priority is a swift return. I’ll depart first, so follow after me as fast as you can.”
“Yes! We will get there as quickly as humanly possible.”
Just then,
“Do you need any assistance?”
The Black Martial Emperor, Dokgo Yeong, stepped forward and asked.
However, Yeo Woonhwi shook his head.
“It’s fine.”
The incident involving the Demonic Human and Sama Ryang had only just concluded.
He didn’t want to impose on them when they were already overwhelmed with cleaning up the aftermath and preparing for the future.
“Is that so? Very well. You must be in a hurry, so be on your way.”
He knew that leaving right now wouldn’t guarantee on-time arrival, but he couldn’t keep Yeo Woonhwi tied down any longer.
Every single second was precious.
“Yes. Then, I hope we meet again someday.”
“Indeed. I look forward to that day.”
Dokgo Yeong nodded.
Immediately after, Yeo Woonhwi looked toward the White Wolf Troop.
“Travel safely.”
“Yes, Grand Commander. Then… please, I beg of you.”
That was all they could say in the current situation.
“Don’t worry.”
With those final words,
Boom!
the ground shook with a deafening roar.
Yeo Woonhwi kicked off the earth and soared into the air.
In a flash, his figure vanished completely.
“Hah…”
Dokgo Yeong and the warriors of the Heretic Alliance stared in sheer awe at Yeo Woonhwi’s astonishing lightness skill.
Still, would he truly be able to arrive in time?
“Don’t worry. Our Grand Commander is exceptionally fast. He won’t be late.”
The White Wolf Troop’s Vice Commander, Oh Chaemoo, said to Dokgo Yeong.
Every single member of the White Wolf Troop seemed to place absolute trust in Yeo Woonhwi.
Even in a situation like this, they wore expressions that suggested they firmly believed Yeo Woonhwi would somehow pull through and resolve the crisis.
“Haha.”
If he hadn’t witnessed Yeo Woonhwi’s true capabilities earlier that day, Dokgo Yeong would have dismissed the White Wolf Troop’s blind faith as foolishness.
Now, however, even he found himself thinking,
‘Perhaps, if it’s that man…’
“What a truly remarkable fellow.”
Dokgo Yeong’s gaze drifted toward the sky where Yeo Woonhwi had disappeared.
He had explicitly said he didn’t need help, that he was fine.
“But you know what? This old man…no, our Heretic Alliance, isn’t so shameless as to sit idly by. Am I right, everyone?”
Dokgo Yeong slowly turned his head to look at the warriors of the Heretic Alliance.
Everyone nodded in unison.
They clearly shared Dokgo Yeong’s sentiment.
Inside a massive grand hall where demonic figures were carved across every wall and ceiling.
A gaunt, thin middle-aged man with a long beard sat upon a throne.
He possessed an innate aura that overwhelmed all others by his mere presence.
He was none other than the Cult Leader of the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult, the Heaven-Sundering Demonic Emperor, Gwak Cheonhu.
As one of the Twelve Venerables of the World, he was an absolute being feared by the entire Murim.
“Hmph.”
Quietly gazing up at the ceiling of the hall, he recalled recent events.
“Still not back?”
“Honestly, just what in the world is old man Black Demon doing wherever he is that he hasn’t returned yet?”
“I heard he left the main cult to investigate the affairs of the Black Death Troop and has been out of contact ever since.”
“Hmph. He’s probably off slaughtering people wherever his whims take him, as usual.”
“Even so, to skip out without a word on an occasion where the Cult Leader himself is present is a grave act of insubordination.”
The figures seated around a massive round table inside the hall chimed in one by one.
They were the Ten Demonic Stars, the supreme masters representing the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult.
At that moment,
“No. Black Demon probably won’t ever return. It seems he is no longer of this world.”
At Gwak Cheonhu’s words from the throne, everyone’s eyes widened in shock.
If anyone else had said such a thing, they would have scoffed, calling it nonsense.
After all, no one knew better than they just how formidable Black Demon was.
Even among the Ten Great Masters, let alone ordinary martial artists, no one could easily handle him, aside from perhaps the Twelve Venerables.
In fact, the Ten Demonic Stars were known to possess strength comparable or secondary to the Ten Great Masters.
Yet, who on earth could possibly have harmed Black Demon?
And yet, the one bringing up Black Demon’s death was none other than their master, Gwak Cheonhu.
If he said it was so, then it must be true.
Still, how on earth did the Cult Leader know such a fact?
As if to answer their unspoken question, Gwak Cheonhu raised a hand and pointed somewhere.
All eyes turned to follow his gesture.
Toward the ceiling of the hall.
Embedded there was a massive, mysteriously glowing red stone.
Surrounding it were ten other stones, each radiating a different colored light.
It was an ornament symbolizing the Cult Leader of the Heavenly Demon Divine Cult and the Ten Demonic Stars who assisted him.
However,
“A-Ah…!”
Among them, a dark purple stone was fractured with a massive, deep crack running right through it.
Everyone’s eyes widened to the point of tearing.
Black Demon was truly dead?
By whose hands…
Could it be one of the Twelve Venerables? Or perhaps…
In an instant, the grand hall was filled with turmoil.
“I heard the Extreme Evil Lesser Demon recently fell to a mere martial force of the Hebei Peng family?”
At Gwak Cheonhu’s abrupt statement, everyone fell silent and lent him their ears.
“On top of that, the Black Death Troop sent to kill the Forest of Scholars was completely wiped out, and now even Black Demon has been killed. Isn’t it a truly ironic coincidence that all these events happened in Hebei? Don’t you think?”
Everyone’s minds drifted to the name of the Hebei Peng family.
Though the exact details of what had transpired remained unknown, it was undeniably clear they were tied to all these events.
A chilling smile soon bloomed across Gwak Cheonhu’s lips.
“We shall use this opportunity to wipe out the Hebei Peng family.”
Everyone was startled by the Cult Leader’s declaration.
“Will the Murim Alliance just sit by and watch?”
Asked Chasing Demon, who possessed the most meticulous nature among the Ten Demonic Stars.
At that, Gwak Cheonhu wore a meaningful smile.
“Haven’t all of you been bored enough lately?”
At the Cult Leader’s words, smiles slowly crept onto everyone’s lips.
Gwak Cheonhu was indeed a man worthy of being a Demonic Cultist, steeped in a deep, dark demonic nature.
That settled their future course of action.
It was time to decide who to send to the Hebei Peng family.
“I shall go!”
A young man seated at the round table bolted upright and cried out with unbridled confidence.
It was Gwak Heowon, Gwak Cheonhu’s second son.
He was one of the final two survivors of a fierce competition among numerous siblings for the position of Minor Cult Leader.
However, he had recently fallen quite far behind the other remaining candidate.
Thus, he sought to redeem himself through this mission.
Gwak Cheonhu’s thoughts, however, lay elsewhere.
“No, let the third son handle this task.”
The Cult Leader designated his third son, Gwak Wundo, as the right man for the job.
Hearing this, the second son, Gwak Heowon, flushed bright red and slumped back down into his seat.
He trembled with humiliation, mortification, and shame.
‘Heh-heh. Stupid bastard, not knowing his place.’
Sneering at his older brother, Gwak Wundo stepped forward.
“I shall carry out your command with all my heart and soul!”
“Four of the Ten Demonic Stars will accompany you. And bring ‘That Thing’ along as well.”
At the Cult Leader’s words, Gwak Wundo’s eyes widened.
“E-Even that thing as well?”
“It’s about time to let it out for some fresh air. Once it gets enough of the smell of blood, it should quiet down.”
Gwak Cheonhu’s words were essentially an order to unleash absolute, overwhelming devastation and make a grand spectacle of it.
So that the entire Murim would tremble at the power of the Demonic Cult once again.
Thus, the Demonic Cult marched toward Hebei.
Returning to the present,
“They’ll be arriving shortly.”
A smile touched the bored lips of Gwak Cheonhu.
“Wipe out the seed of those bastards who dared to shed the blood of sacred Demonic Cultists. My son.”
Meanwhile, at the Murim Alliance Leader’s Palace.
“If this report is true, we must dispatch troops immediately.”
Jegal Mun, the Chief Tactician of the Murim Alliance, spoke in an urgent tone.
The Murim Alliance Leader, Song Ildo, wore a slightly hesitant expression before seeming ready to nod in agreement.
Just then,
“That is unacceptable.”
Someone who had been silently listening stepped forward.
It was Jang Cheong, the Head Elder of the Murim Alliance.
“What do you mean by that? Unacceptable?!”
Jegal Mun unusually betrayed his emotions.
Not at any other time, but the Demonic Cult was heading toward the Hebei Peng family, how could anyone say no in a situation like this?
Unlike Jegal Mun, however, Jang Cheong’s attitude was entirely leisurely.
“Of course, if the Peng family were truly in danger, we should naturally do so. But that is only under the condition that the intelligence is verified as true.”
Jang Cheong continued with a faint smile on his face,
as if all of this were happening to someone else entirely.
“I hear that information comes from an unverified source. Acting blindly on such words and mobilizing our troops is out of the question.”
“However, we were already well aware that the Demonic Cult has been showing unusual movements lately. Furthermore, cross-referencing this intelligence regarding their march on Hebei with several other reports makes it highly likely to be true. Dismissing this information simply because the source is unverified is dangerously reckless.”
“Please calm down. You might be misinterpreting the situation just because it feels urgent.”
“Pardon?”
“Besides, even if the rumor were true, would that mighty Peng family fall so easily? If a real crisis strikes, they’ll somehow hold out and request assistance. It won’t be too late to dispatch troops then.”
“What kind of utter nonsense…!”
Jegal Mun moved beyond absurdity into a state of sheer blank shock.
What on earth was this man talking about right now?
“Now, now. Let’s stop there. Come to think of it, I believe Head Elder Jang Cheong’s reasoning is quite sound.”
“Indeed. If we rashly mobilized our troops and turned out to be chasing ghosts, wouldn’t we just become the laughingstock of the martial world? Caution is paramount.”
“That’s right. Absolutely.”
As if to block Jegal Mun from pressing further, other elders chimed in to support Jang Cheong’s stance.
Jegal Mun was flabbergasted.
How could people like this exist?
Could they not distinguish between times when politics mattered and times when they didn’t?
This was no time to be calculating petty political gains.
Swept up in the prevailing atmosphere, Murim Alliance Leader Song Ildo smacked his lips and gave a nod.
“Ahem. Well, if that’s the consensus of everyone, we’ll proceed accordingly.”
Overwhelmed by a profound sense of horror, Jegal Mun tightly shut both eyes.
Watching him, Jang Cheong sneered inwardly to his heart’s content.
With the meeting concluded shortly after, Jang Cheong returned to his private quarters.
There, Jegal Gil, who had recently been attending to him, was waiting.
“Did something good happen?”
Noticing Jang Cheong appeared unusually in a good mood, Jegal Gil asked with a puzzled look.
Without missing a beat, Jang Cheong recounted what had happened at the Alliance Leader’s Palace to Jegal Gil, chuckling heartily.
“The Demonic Cult… has headed toward the Hebei Peng family?”
“Indeed. And they’re moving with a massive amount of combat power, at that.”
Jang Cheong watered his prize orchid as he continued,
“Well, who knows if it’s true or not. But even if it is, so what? Those Five Great Families are at loggerheads with the Murim Alliance anyway. If one of them vanishes, wouldn’t that actually be a good thing for us?”
To him, whether someone belonged to the Orthodox faction, the Unorthodox faction, or the Demonic Cult didn’t matter in the least.
Letting innocent people bleed mattered even less.
He was a man who cared about nothing except his own personal gains.
A persistent smile lingered on Jang Cheong’s lips.
“The Murim is truly an entertaining place. You never know what kind of events will unfold. Heh-heh, isn’t that right?”
At his words, Jegal Gil’s eyes trembled violently.
A monumental disaster had occurred right under his nose, without him even realizing it.
A calamity akin to a natural disaster that could not be stopped by any means possible.
Instantly, Jegal Gil’s face washed over with despair.
‘Just what on earth are we supposed to do about this?!’
