I Become a Mafia in the Academy [Novel] Chapter 30

Chapter 30

To be honest, the only reason I could pull off such a crazy stunt was entirely thanks to Parnello.

The opponent was the branch manager of a syndicate.

No matter how much heir training I had received over the past few days, or how talented this body was, a one-on-one fight was not a situation where victory could be guaranteed.

However, in a case like just now, it was incredibly simple.

Because the person standing next to me was none other than the ‘Hunter of Callione,’ practically the second-in-command of the Callione family.

Furthermore, while he was exuding a murderous aura from behind me, it was so hard to hold back my laughter.

It was a murderous intent sharp enough to prick even me, who possessed the [Trait: Hitman], so it must have been incredibly threatening to that guy.

“It is finished, Young Master.”

While I had stepped out of the room first to get some fresh air, Parnello walked out, wiping his hands with a handkerchief.

“Good work. What happened to the Triad guys who came with them?”
“Yes. I have taken care of all of them as well.”

As expected of Callione, perhaps?

He had already cleaned everything up in that short amount of time.

“Looking at his behavior and attitude, it’s highly likely that the Triad also sent him as a discarded pawn. If the Triad’s boss was capable of normal thinking, there’s no way he would have sent a guy like that here.”
“I share the same thought. They were far too subpar to have been sent to Callione.”

In short, it meant that even if we disposed of them here, the Triad wouldn’t make any separate moves.

The guys they sent this time were nothing more than a sort of sacrifice to appease Callione’s anger.

However, there was one fact they had overlooked.

“An attitude like this only fuels our anger, though.”

If the Triad’s boss had come over to Korea personally to offer my father respect, an apology, and proper compensation, they might have at least been able to keep their lives.

Callione does not forgive a dog that bares its teeth, but if it yields to its master, we wouldn’t go so far as to take its life.

“Excellent. That is exactly what Callione is.”
“By the way, has there been any separate contact from my father?”

Father had said he would watch this entire process from his study.

If so, Father would have left a message for Parnello by now.

As if my prediction was spot on, Parnello nodded and smiled warmly.

“Yes. To speak in detail might cause you some embarrassment, Young Master… so to put it mildly, he said it was well above a passing mark.”

Embarrassment, really…

It seemed Father had praised me immensely to Parnello.

“In addition, he told you to look forward to the upcoming executive meeting, and that you may also anticipate another reward for this matter.”
“At this point, it almost feels like he’s making me work just so he has an excuse to shower me with things…”
“Doesn’t that just mean he loves you that much, Young Master? I believe it is right to just feign reluctance and accept it.”

Of course, this was also just me pretending to be humble.

“If you say so, Parnello…”

Muttering that, I turned around and began to see the faint, white glow of the sun rising over the mountain ridge.

“…Morning is already approaching.”
“Indeed.”
“I will visit the Don to give a detailed report. You have to go to the Academy soon, Young Master, so please get a little rest. I suspect the discussions regarding rewards and punishments will be concluded before you leave for school.”

From those words alone, I could tell that Parnello wanted to have a conversation with Father without me present.

Normally, Parnello would have asked if I wanted to go see Father first, yet he firmly stated he would give the report himself.

If it was a conversation meant to be held without me, it would naturally be about me.

“Thank you for the consideration, Parnello.”

Hearing my words, Parnello offered a wistful smile and left first. Only after his back disappeared from sight did I also head to my room.

Normally it would still be time to sleep, but thanks to the fatigue recovery potion Father had given me, I didn’t feel like sleeping at all.

As I was making plans for future club activities until the sun fully rose, dawn had broken before I knew it.

—

[Young Master, it is Parnello.]
“Hmm?”

Hearing the voice from outside, I checked my wristwatch and realized it was already time to head to school.

Has it already gotten this late?

“Come in.”

Upon hearing me, Parnello entered the room and bowed his head as I spun my chair around and stretched.

“You haven’t slept, I see.”
“The effects of the fatigue recovery potion Father gave me were a bit too good.”
“Hahaha, that is a relief. The reason I came to see you at this hour is none other than to tell you about the Don’s rewards for what happened early this morning.”

Saying so, Parnello began to explain what Father was providing for me.

“First, you will be given the offshore account obtained through this incident.”
“An offshore account?”
“Yes. We checked on our end, and there are about 1.3 billion Credits in it. We have also received the account password, so you may use it freely.”

1.3 billion Credits…

It was an overly large sum to be considered a day’s wages, but I figured it made sense since I had accomplished that much merit.

“Secondly, you will be provided with a personal suit, Young Master.”
“I have plenty of suits already.”
“You would have plenty if we were talking about ordinary suits, but this one will be a little different.”

Parnello offered a gentle smile as he said that.

The words that followed from his mouth were enough to surprise me.

“We have placed an order for a custom-tailored suit with Maestro.”
“…Huh? Maestro? Are you talking about the Maestro I know?”
“Yes, it is likely the Maestro you are familiar with. You just need to head to Maestro’s workshop with Secretary Han Seo-jun this evening.”
“Hah, this is truly beyond my expectations.”

If it was a suit from Maestro, that changed everything.

Maestro.

A title bestowed only upon master artisans capable of creating ‘Treasures’ purely through their individual abilities.

In other words, they had entrusted the creation of my suit to someone who held a title given to the very best master artisan in a given field.

“Hehe. Most of the suits the Don wears were also made by Maestro. It will surely be of great help to you as well, Young Master.”

How much had I struggled in the game to break through Don Vito Callione’s defenses?

Smothered in absurd properties like stab resistance, bullet resistance, self-repair, and external magic decomposition, the only ways to obtain that suit were to either succeed in the highest difficulty chain quest or to defeat ‘Don Vito Callione’ and get it as a drop. It was a genuine top-tier item.

“A suit from Maestro… I feel like it’s far too much for me.”
“It is because you are the heir. You will be rising to the position of an executive soon; you must wear at least this much to uphold the Don’s honor, don’t you think? Please understand the Don’s feelings, Young Master.”

As I listened, I began to understand why Father and Parnello were going to such lengths.

If I became an executive of the Callione Family, it meant I would be involved in most of the family’s general activities moving forward.

In such a situation, my tone of voice, my movements, and even the clothes I wore would all inevitably be tied to my father’s honor.

“…If you put it that way.”

Perhaps Parnello didn’t know.

That I was currently trying extremely hard to keep the corners of my mouth from rising.

—

“Yu Jin, did something good happen today?”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
“You usually always have an expressionless face, but today, how should I put it… you feel a bit more human? It seemed like something put you in a good mood.”

A feeling, huh…

“Well, something good did happen.”
“Ah! I knew it! Can I ask what it is?”

I couldn’t outright say that I was receiving a suit from Maestro, so should I tell her something else?

“Our club is scheduled to receive a massive investment soon.”
“What?! An in-investment? We don’t even have a club room decided yet, so who on earth would make an investment like that?”

Who else.

“I helped out with my parents’ work this time and received a bit of an allowance. I was planning to use it to set up our club room.”
“Aha, an allowance~ So, exactly how much did you get that you’re calling it a massive investment?”
“The amount, you ask.”

From what I checked in the car, the account Parnello handed me seemed to be one recovered from those guys, meaning the funds were not yet laundered.

It seemed Parnello and Father were curious to see how I would handle the money in this situation. It would be resolved if I simply entrusted the account to Father or Parnello, but I wanted to show my competence in this area as well.

While wondering what I should do with this account, the person who came to mind was none other than Lee Ha-ru.

I figured Lee Ha-ru, the daughter of the Inomiya Group conglomerate and the president of the ‘International Trade Club,’ would be able to solve this problem.

“About 1 billion.”
“Ah~ I see. 1 billion… Huh? Billion? O-One billliiooon?!”

Hearing the words ‘1 billion Credits,’ Kim Se-ah jumped up from her seat in utter shock.

“You’re joking, right? Just what on earth do you have to do to get 1 billion as an allowance? Is your father the head of a conglomerate or something?”

Would a mafia boss also be considered the head of a conglomerate?

“…Well, close enough.”

Hearing my answer, Se-ah stood there with her mouth hanging wide open, unable to speak any further.

“Good morning, Boss~”

Just then, Jinwoo entered the classroom, and Se-ah sharply turned her head before pouncing on him.

“Forget ‘good morning,’ that’s not what’s important right now!”
“W-What?! Why are you suddenly acting like this?”

Jinwoo was completely flustered by her sudden behavior. Se-ah grabbed him by both shoulders and began shaking him back and forth.

“The supreme-tier president of our King-God-General club, Yu Jin, just said he’s going to pour 1 billion Credits into the club! It’s not just a good morning! It’s a freaking fantastic morning!”
“Huh? What does that… O-One billliiooon?!”
“1 billion!”
“One billliiooon?!”
“1 billion!”
“It really is a crazy morning!”

To have the ability to be that loud the moment they arrive at school…

I was so dumbfounded that I was on the verge of laughter.

“B-Boss! Is this real? Are we really getting 1 billion?”

Leaving Kim Se-ah behind, Jinwoo dashed over to me and asked directly.

“…I said it was scheduled; I never said it was confirmed.”
“Then that means it’s really on the table! One billliiooon! The Second Coming of Yu Jin! All demons bow before him! The Second Coming of Yu Jin! All demons bow before him! The Boss is a god! The Boss is a god!”

Just as I found myself grabbing my forehead at the sight of him howling wildly in place, much like Se-ah had just moments before.

“Good morning. President, Jinwoo, Se-ah.”
“This goes way beyond a good morning!”
“This goes way beyond a good morning!”

I felt a sense of déjà vu.

…This is driving me crazy, seriously.
