not quite sure where the "red" is coming from, the russian revolution started in 1917 and the chinese one in 1966. Nothing an american would care about before that no?

I mean sun yat-sen is a pretty egalitarian guy, especially for that time, and Marxism exists long before the russian revolution so it's pretty on point for a republican politician of the time to call sun yat-sen a "red"

1966??? Did you perhaps missed a history class??? Because China became a communist nation in 1951

Lol what do you mean 1951?? The civil war ended in 1949.

red came from the rise of socialism in the 1890s

Sun Yat-Sen was a revolutionary and his party, the Kuomingtan, also included a socialist faction (the left KMT). So it would make sense to call him a red (even if that would he relatively inaccurate).
But socialism existed in China way before that. the Social Democratic Party was a socialist party founded in 1912 (so would already exist by this point in time in the series).
Also no idea where your dates are coming from lol. For Russia the (second) revolution happened in 1917, but the party already existed much before. The RSDLP (from which the Bolsheviks split) was founded in 1898, already a merger of 4 different other parties.
For China, the CPC won the civil war and ruled the country starting in 1949, but the party itself existed since the early 1930s. And as mentioned previously, the left KMT had existed for at least a decade more.
